Madras High Court Rules Purchase of Tribal Land by Non-Tribals Invalid

The Madras High Court held that the purchase of tribal land by non-tribal individuals is invalid and void if it violates restrictions on alienation. Justice K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi observed that tribal communities are legally vulnerable and prohibited the acquisition of title rights by non-tribals even through claims of adverse possession, emphasizing that such lands are meant for the protection of Scheduled Tribes.
