Climate Change Threatens Endemic Nilgiri Wood Pigeon Habitat in Tamil Nadu

A scientific study published in the Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy warns that rising global temperatures could drastically shrink the habitat of the Nilgiri Wood Pigeon by the end of the century. The species, which is endemic to the ‘sky islands’ of the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, faces ecological risks as its specialized high-elevation habitat shifts up-slope due to warming.
